Kyle's drumming milestones
Leo James Conroy- The Troubadour live
First time performing at the legendary Troubadour music club in West Hollywood, Oct 2025. Big thank you to Leo for calling him in as substitute drummer for his set.

Voracious Records studio drummer
First call session drummer on the cutting-edge technology DWe kit for Voracious Records, a new label in Santa Barbara that runs The 805 Room recording studio (2024+).

Setting up shop for Recording
Kyle established a home studio with multiple camera angles and 8-channels of studio mics in 2023 for online instruction and to build custom drum tracks for your songs.

Accepted to Berklee's 6-week summer 2017 program on scholarships. Studied Brazilian rhythms with Alberto Neto. Offered $80,000 scholarship to attend college after.

Performing with Eric Marienthal
Jazz in Paradise 2018, Eric's master class quartet backline and Eric's big band drummer for Gordan Goodwin's "Get in Line" and Les Hooper's "Guy Noir's Brother"

First Pro Band as a Leader- 2017
Trio jazz combo, King Tyle and the Court, with Kyle Dorny (drums), Julian Littlehale (bass), and Sam Scherz (guitar). Independent promotion by the SB Jazz Festival Redux

Improv with Jazz Legends
Serendipity of living in Santa Barbara is that UCSB provides an Arts & Lectures that brings musicians to the classroom and they always need a drummer to improv with.

Reno Jazz Festival- 2016
Milestone event in Kyle's decision to be a professional musician. Sextet combo ranked first place AAA division at the Reno Jazz Festival with Kyle on the kit.

How it all started- 2007
Started taking private lessons at renowned local, Mike's Drum Shop with Barry Birmingham. Kyle's dad made this "kit" for him unsure if he would stick with it!!!

UNT- Jazz Drumset

What I love about the SB Music Scene
Out on the open space bluffs by the water, maybe a 1/2 mile from the road for a photo shoot. A wandering guitarist stops for an impromptu jam session. That is Santa Barbara!!!

Expanding from Jazz to Alt/Rock- 2017
Word of mouth expanded Kyle from jazz into pop, alt-rock, & funk bands. The Santa Barbara Bowl's Educational Outreach funds venues for teen bands to perform.

Performing with Gregg Bissonette
Jazz in Paradise 2017 performing a four drummer arrangement of Buddy Rich's "Bugle Call Rag". Westin Byerly, David McInnes, Kyle Dorny, Gregg Bissonette.

First Pro Band- 2016
Quartet combo, The Rhythm Section, with David Struven (piano), Sam Scherz (guitar), Julian Littlehale (bass), and Kyle Dorny (drums).

First Band as a Leader- 2014
Octet jazz band, The Collective, performed 5 jazz-standard songs at the Goleta Lemon Festival, with drums (Kyle), alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone, bass, guitar, and vocals.

“Voracious Records can't say enough good things about Kyle. He's pro all the way - comes to rehearsals and sessions prepared, charts his parts, and even charts his ideas. He's versatile in style- composition and musical sense is superb. He can record remotely and edit as needed. Live, he's a dynamic and powerful team player. He's incredibly easy and fun to work with but also disciplined. Looking forward to working on yet another record with him.
